Framed as the introduction to a story, Etchells’ ongoing work The Chapter is a text in the form of a long list of names and nicknames, purporting to be those of the members of an outlaw motorcycle gang. Combining actual names, names shared with celebrities or politicians as well as all kinds of pun-names, associative, unlikely, absurd and obscene names, Etchells’ text is a comical and poetic reminder of the play between name and character, figure and sign.
