In Go With Your Heart, Tim Etchells and Vlatka Horvat construct a work about memory, the way that incidents and events are stored in and processed by the body. A new commission for Basel Ballet, which marks their first collaborative choreographic work, the project connects the dancers onstage via a web of fragmented images, animating the stage as a machine for their playful and dynamic transmission and reinvention.
In a space delineated by shifting boundaries, sixteen dancers transform and re-inflect gestures, movements and images – memories of the past or anticipations of the future – through a process of continuous repetition, mimicry and adjustment. As they move there are oblique glimpses of sport and exercise, of animal or cartoon movement, of social interaction, of grotesque, delirious, troubled, and fantastic bodies and, of course, of dance itself, revealing the body as an archive of desire, trauma, joy and resistance.
Go With Your Heart asks questions about how to be together with others, how to persist and continue finding ways forward in a shared space of uncertainty.
