In the audio installation Stand Off, Etchells works and reworks a short series of imperative phrases demanding retreat. Played on, and panned endlessly between, four identical speakers on stands, the confrontation between these inanimate objects is deadlocked, none of them moving despite the fluctuating urgency of the demand repeated endlessly in the text.
